Crashing Down (Silver Tongued Devils Series Book 4) by Samantha Conley
Brett – A night two years ago cost me everything—my fiancée, my bandmates’ respect, and any pride I had. Becoming a single father to the resulting baby boy is the only good thing to come from it. My life is finally getting back on track as front man of the Silver Tongued Devils. Until her. One look into those hazel eyes, one taste of her lips, and I knew things will never be the same. My fame places me in the crosshairs of an obsessed fan. One who won’t take no for an answer. This time it’s not just me that I have to worry about.
Skylar – New town, new job, new friends. My life is turning around and I’m putting the past behind me. A chance encounter with a hot guy at the grocery store has me hauling ass in the other direction. How was I to know that he’d show up in my office requesting help with his son’s speech problems? Or that he was once engaged to my new friend? The way his brown eyes burn with lust makes me crave things I shouldn’t. He’s way out of my league. My heart’s not ready to be broken again but I can’t help myself.
Karma’s a bitch and she’s coming for her dues. Who will pay the price?
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I knew, before beginning, that this book was about Brett. We met Brett in book 1, and he was the character that you love to hate. We watched as his relationship built with Kristen, and then we watched as it crashed and burned. We watched as he spiraled out of control. I didn’t like him for what he did to Kristen, no matter if it turned out for the best. I wasn’t sure I wanted him to have a HEA, after all of the pain he caused. But I also knew, there had to be more. And boy, was there!!!! This book took everything I thought I knew, and threw it in the trash. This book took what I thought went on and rebuilt it from scratch, creating a phenomenal story that is probably my favorite out of the series.
Brett’s life has been full of ups and downs, highs and lows. He lost his parents, but found another family. He found the love of his life, but lost her. He is living his dream, but lost the respect of his band mates. Now, once again, he is rebuilding who he is, and everything that he knows changes in a split second. His life is turned upside down, and he has to figure out how to make it work.
Skylar has worked hard to accomplish her goals, forgoing many of the things that could have distracted her. The few times she has strayed from the “straight and narrow” had disastrous results that still haunt her. She doesn’t trust easily, because she’s been burned.
Brett and Skylar are an explosion waiting to happen. The heat levels are off the charts combustible! There are so many obstacles in their path, and the past keeps coming back to haunt them. This entire series was amazing, and this book just added to that. I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next!
