Scars of the Soul by Darlene Tallman

When Amy has a major health scare, she determines that she’s going to get healthy. Armed with a plan, she joins a local gym, ignoring the smart comments and barbs from the other female members. She notices Rhett, one of the owners, but is convinced he’ll never be interested in someone like her.

After being medically discharged from his career as a Navy avionics technician, Rhett moves back home and joins his siblings running the family-owned gym. Plagued by the nightmares that haunt him of his last tour that nearly cost him his life, he pours himself into his work. When he notices the strawberry-blonde dynamo, he determines that she’s someone he wants to know better.

Can two people with soul-deep scars find happiness? Or will their demons keep them from one another?

My Review:

Scars of the SoulScars of the Soul by Darlene Tallman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This quick, steamy read was originally published in an anthology. While it’s not very long, it is a complete story, and isn’t attached to any other stories the author has written to date. If you’ve not read anything by her before, this is a good way to jump in, and get a taste of her writing style.

Amy is a woman who has initiated a lifestyle change. A medical crisis has prompted her to change her entire life around, to try to get healthy, and reclaim her body. While at the gym, she meets Rhett, one of the siblings that own the gym. There is an immediate attraction, but she doesn’t seem to believe that it could be reciprocated on his side. Rhett, on the other hand, is former military, working his way through PTSD issues, and seems to be biding his time, until he feels that she is ready for him to reveal his affections!

To be as short as it is, this book is full of hot, steamy goodness! I loved how accepting Rhett was of all of Amy’s issues, and how they immediately seemed to just click with each other. This book is absolutely full of the love and support between the two of them that makes this author’s books so amazing. This was a great, short read, perfect for when you need a quick pick me up!
