Reclaiming Maysen: New Beginnings (New Beginnings Book 1) by Liberty Parker & Darlene Tallman
Maysen Hatchet is a bit of a loner, always watching the people around her but rarely joining in, she has a small circle of friends she trusts. Plus, a big family courtesy of the Rebel Guardians MC. The day she starts coming out of her shell is the day she meets him. Maddox Weston. Neither of them know what the future holds, but through everything – the bullying at her new high school and her fears about what she’ll do when she grows up – he’s there. Maddox Weston knows that Maysen is special. Her kindness radiates through her and he counts himself lucky that she’s his best friend. Over the years, their friendship grows into something else and he cannot wait for the day that he can call her his. When tragedy strikes, he’s there for her but will it be enough? Or will his Maisy-Daisy withdraw and pull away?
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book is a spin off of the Rebel Guardians MC Series, but not part of the Next Generation Series. Maysen is the daughter of DJ and Hatch, the Enforcer, and Maddox is the son of Braxton’s cousin. (I’m pretty sure this is a different series because even though it’s about one of the kids, they aren’t affiliated with the RGMC, whereas the others are) This book begins with Maysen and Maddox’s first meeting, as kids, and follows them as they grow up, becoming best friends. Their friendship endures, despite distance and teenage drama. Eventually, that friendship becomes more (much to Hatch’s displeasure!)
I enjoyed this book a lot. While the RGMC play a role in the book, it’s more of a peripheral role. This book focuses more on a couple of college kids finding their way in a relationship for the first time. There was some drama throughout the book, from several different sources, that had me on the edge of my seat. I loved how sure Maddox was of his wants and their future path. I loved how immediate and long lasting their feelings were for each other. It was just a beautiful story, with great characters and a fun story line. Definitely a must read for fans of the RGMC!
