Mountain Ink: Mountain Mermaids (Sapphire Lake) by Darlene Tallman
After nearly one thousand years under water thanks to Tamsin’s curse, Dax Carlson feels he will never find his mate. Each month, it gets more and more difficult to return to the surface for the three days he’s allowed. But he’s not quite ready to throw in the proverbial towel and instead, decides that he will finally get the tattoo he’s been plotting with the new owner of Mountain Ink, Jesse Halstead.
Racine Halstead is in over her head and she knows it, having promised her uncle that she would run his tattoo shop while he sees to his father’s estate. A native of Aurora Falls, she’s aware of the legend as she also does caretaking duties at several of the monthly visitors’ cabins. She just never expects that one will come in wanting a tattoo or that he’ll wind up being her mate.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I’ve got to be honest with you. When I first read the blurb for this book, I thought “Really?!? Shape shifting mermaids?!? What the heck?” It sounded kinda corny, sort of weird. I mean, really, there was no way to make mermaids sexy! I was thinking how was this author going to turn the little mermaid into a Hot, adult romance? Somehow, she did it! I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, even though I didn’t think I would!
The entire premise of this book is based on a race of shape shifting mer-people (not sure if that’s a word, but there are men and women!) who were cursed because one of their own turned down a witch, back in the day. So now they have to stay under water, except for a few days a month, until they find their true mate.
I absolutely was astounded by this story. The author took something I though would have been impossible, and spun it into and fantastically hot romance! There was plenty of heat, some drama, and lots of laughs. This has the makings of an amazing beginning to a series! I can’t wait to see what happens next!!!!
